Reddit monitor: watch subreddits for keywords

Name some subreddits and some keywords, and Manycrawl turns every new matching post or comment into a row. You can then enrich the rows, for example with a lead score or a company name. It needs no login and no API key, and it works in the desktop app.

Set up a monitor

  1. On Home, under Sources, choose Reddit monitor.
  2. Under Subreddits (comma or newline separated, no r/), list the subreddits, for example “SaaS, startups, Entrepreneur”.
  3. Under Keywords (comma or newline separated), list what to look for, for example “cold email, deliverability, switching from”.
  4. Optional: Exclude if it contains drops matches that include words such as “hiring” or “job”.
  5. Choose how to Match: Any keyword (the default), All keywords, Exact phrase or Regex. Choose where to Look in: Posts (default), Comments or Both.
  6. Set Keep rows for: 3, 7, 14 or 30 days (default 30). Older rows are removed automatically so a long-running monitor cannot grow without limit.
  7. Click Create & run. You see “Reddit monitor created — fetching first matches…”.

What you get

Each match is a row with Subreddit, Kind (post or comment), Title, Text (up to 8,000 characters), Matched, Author, Created, Recorded and a Link to the Reddit page. A match you have already seen is not added again. Each new match is one action.

Keep it running

A new monitor checks once when you create it. To keep it fresh, click Automations on the table and turn on Auto-refresh. You can choose every 15 minutes, hour, 6 hours or day. See Automations. You can also click Check now at any time. The status chip shows when it last checked.

To be told when something new turns up, put a webhook address under Notify this monitor to. Slack addresses work. If you leave it empty, Manycrawl uses the global one in Settings → Notifications. A notification is sent only when new rows were added.

Limits and good manners

  • It only checks while Manycrawl is open. Checks pause when the app is closed and continue when it opens again.
  • It looks at the newest 100 posts or comments in each subreddit at every check. On a very busy subreddit, matches can scroll past between checks, so check more often.
  • Reddit rate-limits hard. Manycrawl paces itself and backs off when Reddit says to slow down.
  • No proxy is recommended. Reddit’s public feed works from your own connection. An expired proxy makes checks fail with HTTP 407, so if you used one, clear it.

If it shows an error

  • “Add at least one subreddit” and “Add at least one keyword”: fill in both lists.
  • “N subreddit(s) skipped”: those subreddits do not exist or are private. Check the names.
  • “All N subreddit(s) failed”: usually a proxy problem or Reddit rate-limiting. Remove the proxy and try again later.
