Clean up company and personal names
Scraped names come with legal endings, emojis and titles that look wrong in an email. Two columns tidy them, with no key. Use them before you merge a name into a message.
Format company name
- Click Enrichment and choose Format company name.
- Pick the Source column, which can hold names or web addresses.
- Choose the Capitalization: Title case (the default), Sentence case, UPPERCASE or lowercase.
What it does:
- Turns an address into a name:
www.acme-tools.combecomes “Acme Tools”. - Removes emojis and symbols, but keeps
&and full stops. - Removes legal endings such as Ltd, Inc and GmbH.
- If everything would be removed, it keeps the cleaned original instead of leaving the cell empty.
Names longer than 25 characters are highlighted in red with the tooltip “Over 25 characters – check for errors”, as a prompt to look at them by hand.
Check the result on a few real names. Words that look like legal endings, for example Co, SA, AS or Limited, can be removed wherever they appear in a name, not just at the end.
Format personal name
Choose Format personal name and pick the source column. There are no options. It:
- removes pronouns like “(she/her)”;
- removes credentials such as PhD, MBA, CPA and PMP, and leading titles such as Dr, Prof, Mr, Mrs, Ms and Miss;
- removes emojis and symbols, keeping letters, digits, spaces, hyphens, apostrophes and full stops;
- writes every word in Title Case.
Title Case can change names that are spelled a particular way, such as “McDonald” or “de la Cruz”, so give the result a quick look before using it.
An empty cell stays empty. If you forget to pick the source column, you see “Select a source column for Format personal name.”
